This paper examines the aims and significance of US President George W. Bush's visit to India in March 2006. The author argues that the main aims of the US are to strengthen ties with India as an important strategic partner both in Asia and globally and to gain greater access to India's market. On the other hand, India aims to enhance its regional and international profile, resolve its energy problem through civilian nuclear cooperation and access to other high technology resources from the US.
