This paper discusses the reasons for the decline in India's interest in Afro-Asian solidarity in the aftermath of the Bandung conference of April 1954 and its revival in the 1990s. The author points out that the question of Bandung's legacy is especially pertinent, as India's "Look East Policy" had met with success in the post-Cold War period. He states that this policy coincides with India's shifting development strategy from self-reliance to global economic integration. The paper poses such questions as how India's policy towards East Asia differs from its past policy and what India can do to ensure that some of the pitfalls of the past not be repeated.
