This paper discusses the effects of the German reunification of 1989-1990 for Europe on an economical, political and social level. The author focuses on three main topics: first, the possible relation between EU membership and the German economic stagnation; second, the change of direction in German foreign and security policy; and finally, the German influence on the process of European integration.
