This publication represents the full-length, final report of the Stern Review on the Economics of Climate Change. The report was commissioned by the UK government and compiled by Sir Nicholas Stern, head of the Government Economics Service. It suggests that global warming could shrink the global economy by 20 percent, but taking immediate action would cost just 1 percent of the global gross domestic product. The author states that without action, up to 200 million people could become refugees as their homes are hit by drought or flood. He emphasizes that strong and urgent international measures must be implemented in order to effectively counter the adverse global consequences of climate change.
