This paper provides an assessment of the peace process in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) following the 1998-2002 civil war. It analyzes the political and security-related developments since 2002 with a special focus on continuities and changes of politico-economic structures and networks of the former war economy. The author includes two case studies evaluating the role of important military, political and economic actors in the transition process. The paper concludes with a set of policy recommendations.
