This paper analyzes the problematic relationship between Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) and the World Trade Organization (WTO). The author provides an overview of the WTO, its relevant sub-agreements and obligations imposed on South Africa. The paper also analyzes BEE and systematically examines the inconsistencies between BEE and WTO rules. The author assesses the collaboration of BEE and the WTO in light of possible repercussions for both sides.
