This report examines the deeply flawed political system of Nigeria which contributes to rising violence that threatens to destabilize the country. It views the conflict in the Niger Delta, intercommunal violence in Plateau State, and the rise of ethnic militias, sectarian vigilantes and separatists as consequences of the federalist experiment and the failure of political leadership at every level. To prevent the deterioration of the internal crisis, the report advises the government to engage with the underlying issues of resource control, equal rights, power sharing and accountability.
