The Iraq Study Group report assesses the situation in Iraq and discusses the consequences of the deteriorating security situation in the country. The report goes on to review alternative courses of action and presents the group's recommendations for the future. These include the building of an international consensus on the country and steps to help Iraqis help themselves. The report also calls for a new direction of US policy towards Iraq; it recommends the withdrawal of all combat forces by early 2008 and diplomatic initiatives with Syria and Iran.
