This publication provides a field manual on counterinsurgency operations for US armed forces. It strives to provide those conducting counterinsurgency campaigns with a solid foundation for understanding and addressing specific insurgencies based on lessons learned from counterinsurgencies in Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq and elsewhere. The authors conclude that a successful counterinsurgency campaign requires a flexible, adaptive force led by agile, well-informed, culturally astute leaders.
