This working paper provides information on the state and development of special economic zones (SEZ) in India and on general issues related to SEZs, such as the location problem of multinational corporations coming to Indian SEZs and the design and composition of SEZs. Furthermore, the paper summarizes different SEZ concepts, their purpose and examples from different countries. The paper ends with an outline of several Indian-Singaporean collaborations in the field.
