This report explores arguments for and against a war to deprive Saddam Hussein of his power over Iraq and evaluates also alternative courses of action to tackle the Iraq-question. Firstly, the paper discusses the war option and looks into three different rationales that might justify the use of violence, including war to meet external threat, war to achieve disarmament and war to meet internal threat. Subsequently, the paper outlines three alternative scenarios which include a deadline for disarmament, extended inspections and a combination of containment, deterrence and diplomacy.
