The paper examines the rationale for "aid for trade" (AfT), starting with a review of developments in the field and institutions involved. The author presents statistical findings on the impact of AfT in various different countries. The paper states that research results indicate that for 40 countries, representing two thirds of the world's population, there has been a positive relationship between trade openness and economic growth.
