This briefing outlines the presidential crisis in Indonesia. It describes the president's loss of his DPR party's support and his turn to the Indonesian people to stay in power. Gus Dur showed little indication of handing over power voluntarily to parliament as demanded by his critics. The paper concludes by outlining the political and economic implications of the impasse in presidential-parliamentary relations.
