Publication
Oct 1992
This publication focuses on the October 1992 visit of Japanese Emperor Akihito to China and the strengthening of relations between East Asia’s two giants the visit symbolizes. The paper analyzes the implications this has for the US. Furthermore, the paper discusses the rapidly expanding Sino-Japanese economic relationship. The authors state that problems with the US give both Asian countries added impetus for improving relations with each other and suggest a diminishing US capacity to control the shifting political environment in Asia.
