This publication discusses the dependency of Asia’s economic development and improvement in living standards on addressing its worsening environmental problems. It furthermore analyzes how the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum could be organized to allow the collaboration of environmental NGOs. The author argues these changes are necessary to ensure that liberalized trade and investment stay on course; and further states that for those changes to happen, tolerance and encouragement of a more open and collaborative APEC dialogue is required.
