This publication discusses the US–Japan security alliance that has been restored since the end of the Cold War by US and Japanese policymakers. Furthermore it analyzes the ambivalence in Japan about the terms of the alliance that a series of incidents has revealed. The author states that those events seemed to many to sacrifice Japanese citizens’ interests to those of the US military, and that there seems to be increasing impatience among Japan’s citizens with the way the alliance is managed.
