This paper discusses the role played by Indonesia in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum and in promoting US economic objectives in Asia. The author argues that Indonesia is influential in key areas of the US foreign policy agenda. The paper addresses Indonesia's transition and states that the passing of power from President Suharto has implications on issues such as the Chinese business activity and the role of Islam in politics.
