This publication discusses the economic growth in the Asia-Pacific region as a result of increasing trade and investment activities. The authors argue that for the current levels of growth to continue, barriers to trade and investment must fall further than they already have. Members of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum are said to be divided on how to approach this goal. They can either follow US policymakers and their allies by concentrating on legalistic agreements and timetables for the rapid reduction of trade barriers, or by taking a more evolutionary course.
