This paper discusses demographic and political imperatives for improving Maori relations in New Zealand. The author describes how the growing Maori population has made New Zealand the only developed country in which the indigenous people’s movement for self-determination is sufficiently large enough to promise the possibility of major societal transformations. The paper details how the New Zealand government may negotiate with the growing indigenous community.
