This publication focuses on the rising of Asia's elderly. The publication warns, that the result of this demographic shift will be growing demand for health care and use of retirement systems, and elderly support—particularly if the traditional family support system continues to erode. Furthermore it points out, that population aging could slow economic growth. The authors conclude, that if governments want to meet the challenges posed by aging populations, they must start soon to adopt policies that encourage saving and investment, develop effective social and economic institutions, and find new ways to tap the productive potential of older people.
