This publication focuses on the Middle East as the Asia-Pacific region's largest energy supplier and the hunt for alternative suppliers this dependence has caused. The publication discusses advantages and disadvantages of Central Asia, located between the Middle East and the Asia Pacific region and already an oil and gas exporter, as an alternative. The authors conclude that not until geopolitics become more favorable to the south-bound options, or technologies make the China route possible, will the Asia-Pacific region be able to tap the energy resources of Central Asia.
