This paper details Singapore's development as an international tourist destination and regional hub. The author explains how the city state chose a path of cooperation with Indonesia and Malaysia to build its own economic and tourist base. The paper states that Singapore's experience demonstrates that regional tourism, while diversifying tourism development opportunities, can also perpetuate inequities between wealthier and poorer collaborators and present serious challenges to businesses operating in unfamiliar settings.
