This paper discusses Indonesia's economic and political crisis by analyzing the reasons why this country emerged as the most serious casualty of Asia's financial turmoil. The paper criticizes the Suharto government and concludes that the president bears the main responsibility for the crisis. The author explains why the country's disintegration would have serious consequences for the region and for US interests.
