This paper discusses the media development in Russia and argues that the free press fell prey to widespread corruption and politicization. The author explains how local and national politicians, as well as those with money, control the Russian media. The paper addresses the problem of the soaring Russian readership and argues that disenchantment with content and a sense of futility about the impact of journalism are the reasons for it.
