This analysis discusses the risks and causes of the increase in South Asian commerce with wild species. The author argues that it is the increasing personal hardship that poses the greatest threat to already endangered species and habitats, as cash-needy citizens turn to their forests for the income that their regular jobs and crops no longer provide. The paper lists the forces that work synergistically to jeopardize the remaining Southeast Asian forests and their biological resources.
