This report assesses the value and effectiveness of the peace agreement for Burundi, signed on 28 August 2000 in Arusha. The paper evaluates the prospects offered for a Burundian peace process and suggests concrete measures to facilitate its reactivation. For that purpose the analysis focuses first on results obtained by the conclusion of the accord and then on the initiatives, which followed the signing on 28 August 2000. The paper argues that Burundians must seize the opportunity the peace accord gives them in order to stop war.
