This analysis speculates on the future post-Brexit relationship between Spain and the UK. It concludes that Madrid is eager to protect the close trade relations and direct investments it has with London, and is equally loath to dislocate its sizeable British expat population. However, given Spain’s predominantly pro-EU membership stance, UK negotiators will have to be wary not only of the Scottish independence movement, but also those who want to ‘free’ Gibraltar.
