This issue of BPSR features six articles, one research note, and a review essay. They specifically focus on 1) the idea (and ideal) of freedom; 2) the relationship between unionism, the decision-making process and social security reform in Brazil; 3) the present status of Brazilian political institutions; 4) the electoral performance of small parties in Brazil; 5) the unexpectedly proactive power exercised by the Brazilian legislature; 6) the role of social justice as a ‘basic structure’ of society; 7) the extent of presidential dominance over cabinets in presidential systems; and 8) the benefits, or not, of trade for development.
