This paper provides an assessment of the French approach to peace operations. The author explains that in the eyes of French decision-makers, the potential instability on the periphery of Europe represents a more pressing threat to French interests than rival European powers. He concludes by showing how France has modified its military doctrine to reflect this strategic calculus, and how France’s concept of peace operations reflects this doctrinal change.
