This report presents the issues discussed at the SDA's January 2007 roundtable on defense equipment export controls. Highlights from the first session include the short to medium-term probability of developing a unified export control rulebook for the EU, reforms in the area of dual-use items and a proposed partnership between industry and regulators as a trust-building measure in reducing the need for extensive controls. Discussions in the second section focus on differences between the US and European defense markets. A common conclusion among the participants is that a trans-Atlantic defense equipment market remains a distant goal despite increased capital flows.
