This paper looks at the opportunity Myanmar has to revive negotiations for a comprehensive peace agreement after nearly 70 years of armed conflict. After providing a detailed account of previous state-led attempts to establish peace, the paper examines 1) the current administration’s more inclusive approach, which is being guided by Aung San Suu Kyi, and 2) the lingering impediments to future progress.
