This volume features 17 articles and a lengthy conclusion which analyze a variety of military interventions with two goals in mind – 1) to understand in a more thorough, three-dimensional way the dynamics of illicit power and state weakness, and 2) to use this knowledge in order to prevent or resolve armed conflicts. While exploring their case studies, the text’s multiple authors identify those tools, processes, and methods that they believe work best in dealing with the problem of illicit power in a tottering world.
