This publication discusses the political turmoil in Venezuela, including the increasing repression of the population, the emergence of parallel legislative and judicial institutions, Juan Guaidó’s self-declaration as interim president and more. It also outlines the international response to the crisis and provides recommendations on what approach the EU should adopt regarding the situation, suggesting Brussels should, among other things, exert diplomatic pressure to protect the population from repression, hunger and disease, and to strengthen the opposition.
