As President Trump continues to guide the US towards a more protectionist economic policy, this paper probes whether China’s bid to serve as the new driving force of globalization is legitimate or feasible. Overall, the text´s authors contend that several factors will prevent China from becoming globalization’s new champion in the near future, including its relatively closed market, persistent use of prohibited trade practices, stalled internal economic reforms, social challenges, and ongoing political disputes with neighboring countries.
