The preferred answers to the above question, at least as far as this author is concerned, include the following: 1) recognize the continued centrality of the Asia-Pacific region and the alliances the US has created there; 2) support nuclear nonproliferation and denuclearization (on the Korean Peninsula) in the area; 3) reaffirm ASEAN’s importance and focus on reassuring the US’ Southeast Asian friends and partners; 4) fix the TPP rather than scrap it; and 5) avoid a trade war with China.
