This paper explores the effects of civil war in increasing the subsequent incidence of death and disability due to infectious disease and poor health conditions in the different population sub-groups. The authors argue that as refugee flows put people into crowded and unsanitary conditions, refugees become trans-border vectors of infectious disease. Additionally, they draw on existing theory and evidence to discover whether systematic long-term health effects of civil wars can be discerned across the globe.
