This article outlines data measurement strategies in the field of international relations. The author explores milestones in the creation and availability of international social, economic and political statistics. He explains that the scientific study of international relations is directed to the development of comparable and valid measures of theoretically important concepts according to international standards of reliability and validity, to developing procedures for their analysis and to making the data available to a wide range of social scientists.
