This multi-part text does indeed focus on the attempts by nation-states to combat transnational organized crime (TOC), with a special emphasis on the part special operations forces play in the fight. The separate sections of the book examine 1) how TOC contributes to instability and poor governance, and why an integrated regional approach is necessary to deal with these problems; 2) the different approaches which the US, Canada, and Mexico have taken to counter borderless crime; 3) the operational aspects of countering TOC; and 4) how the Westphalian rules-based system is being gravely challenged by the convergence of illicit networks of terrorists, insurgents, and transnational criminals.
