This paper examines the relative profitability of certified organic and conventional farming operations in tropical Africa. The authors analyze the difference between organic and conventional farmers in terms of the adoption of farming practices and with regard to household factor endowments. The paper is based on the survey of smallholder farmers in the organic coffee, cocoa and pineapple sectors in Uganda.
