This paper examines the importance of the spice industry in Tanzania. The authors discuss the general profile, supply chain structure and food standards structure of the industry, and analyze its development history. The paper states that both macro- and micro-institutional weaknesses must be resolved, if the Tanzanian spice industry is to realize its full economic potential.
