This paper discusses options and alternatives to address Iran's nuclear program. It describes and evaluates the sanctions directed against Iran, assesses the progress of the nuclear program and reviews different available scenarios of how to engage the country. Subsequently, the author suggests a European contribution to a strategy shift based on negotiations without preconditions, political relaxation and adapted negotiation objectives. He argues that the current strategy toward Iran has at best no impact and might at worst be a step toward US military action.
