The analysis explores how the violence in Iraq/Syria is threatening Turkey and Iran’s traditionally peaceful management of their Middle East rivalry, primarily because of their colliding interests. To rebuild trust and avert open conflict, Ankara and Tehran will have to coordinate their de-escalation of tensions, exchange intelligence data with each other, and formally designate representatives that will open new channels of communications between the two states.
