This paper defines the major tasks that the executive director (ED) of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria should primarily focus on and provides specific recommendations for action. The authors conclude that it is vital for the new ED to get off to a strong start in establishing trust with key board members and partners while appraising the real and immediate challenges facing the Fund.
