This paper analyzes the renewed interest in cosmopolitanism among theorists. The author explores the different notions and dimensions of the concept and elaborates on the two main ideas behind the different understandings of cosmopolitanism: cultural cosmopolitanism and political cosmopolitanism. He also notes that despite the renewed interest in cosmopolitanism since the Cold War, the headlines and the storylines in these times have often been of another kind: of new wars, human wrongs and things falling apart. Nevertheless, it may be worth looking more closely for the small signs of banal, quotidian or low-intensity cosmopolitanism, he recommends.
