This issue of Strategic Insights addresses political developments and crises in Bolivia, Columbia, Ecuador and Venezuela, focusing on the process of democratic consolidation despite earlier significant democratic gains. The paper explores these challenges and transformations through four country-specific chapters. Aside from that, the paper analyzes Hamas' victory in the Palestinian territories' parliamentary elections and assesses successes and failures in Afghanistan post-2001 political and nation building process.
