This paper assesses the capabilities and intentions of North Korea's People's Army. It explores the origins, development and military doctrine of the conventional as well as unconventional armed forces. The authors particularly underscore North Korean weapons of mass destruction and the nuclear threat potential. They argue that the US and South Korea cannot overthrow the regime by force or destroy its strategic military assets without risking devastating losses in the process.
