This paper examines North Korea's foreign relations with China, Russia, Japan, US and South Korea during the post-Cold War era. It analyzes the regional characteristics for determining North Korea's foreign relations and examines the complex interplay of global, regional and national forces that have influenced and shaped the changing relational patterns between the countries. The author assesses Pyongyang's survival strategy in security and economics and outlines the prospects for the relationships.
