This paper examines how the US approach to the war in Iraq has affected operations there. The author draws on the experience of other nations, particularly the UK, to identify broad lessons. He documents the process by which the US armed forces in Iraq have adapted to the challenging situation and incorporated the lessons learned into the counterinsurgency doctrine. Also specific stages of the war are analyzed.
