This article assesses the status of Germany's economic reforms in the years 2006 and 2007, when the the country's economic engine seemed to gain speed after several years of stagnation. It offers a range of recommendations on what the German chancellor should do to reinforce this recovery. According to the authors, she should focus on labor market reform, identify new growth industries, build a competitive educational system, revitalize the "Eastern Länder" and cope with the demographic challenge.
