This paper focuses on the theory and practice of the concept of dissuasion for the US armed forces and US defense policy. The authors explore the implications of dissuasion from different perspectives, including force posture and the threat of terrorism, and presents case studies on US dissuasion toward China, Russia, India and Pakistan. The paper features two conference reports.
